The natural environment at Goonvean

Archaeological

Goonvean investigates the archaeological aspects of each area of land before it is mined. Many historical features relate to old mining operations and any interesting historical features are safeguarded or recorded. This is carried out in conjunction with the local authority or English Heritage, and all work gains their stamp of approval before mining starts.

Goonvean works closely with the Wheal Martyn Museum to ensure that our clay mining heritage is preserved for future generations. We provide financial assistance and management services to the Museum to assist in safeguarding the heritage of our industry and providing a facility to interpret the role of the clay industry in the history of the local community.
